Gracie’s Ears by Debbie Blackington

Salaam (peace)!

Welcome to Salaam Storytime!

We are a family on a mission to promote diversity and inclusion in children’s literature.

Read with permission from Pebbleton Press, Join Leena and Janan as they share the adorable picture book “Gracie’s Ears” both written and illustrated by Debbie Blackington.

You will meet Gracie in this heartfelt rhyming picture book based on a true story. Gracie is an adorable little girl who is just like every other kid in school, except her ears are sleeping. Watch this debut video with illustrations by Debbie Blackington and captioned with subtitles to join us as we share how Gracie’s doctors and family help her and an introduction to hearing aids.

Thank you for joining us! Please come back for our next story time.

Nope-Nope Emu by R.C. Chizhov

A charming story about Emu who learns the power of perseverance and never giving up!

In old and charming Emu Town…an emu wins the emu-flap game every year. But when she loses her winning streak, she mopes around, saying “Nope!” to all games. Follow her journey as she finds inspiration to say “Yes” and win emu-flap again. With colorful illustrations and playful rhymes, Nope-Nope Emu proves that failure can be hard but getting back in there and trying again has its own rewards. COLLIDER Artist-In-Residence Program

Cofounder Janan Sarwar will be representing Salaam Storytime in April 2023 at the Louisville Free Public Library. This one-month residency provides the opportunity for local artists in Louisville to share their talents with the local community. Janan will share her experience creating the children’s storytelling podcast “Salaam Storytime” with her daughters. Those who visit the library will learn how to be involved in this international storytelling project and how they can create their own podcast, too. Funding for the COLLIDER Artist in Residence Program is provided by Council Woman Madonna Flood.

Stay tuned for more details and updates about this program to come.
